Bower A barn, a walled garden and a very long table

One wedding at a time

Tell us your date and this page will tell you what the light does that evening, and how many the rooms hold laid out the way you want them.

The rooms, and what they hold

Six rooms and two gardens

Every number on every one of these is worked out from the real dimensions of the room. There is no capacity field to type into.

The place, on ordinary days

No weddings in any of these. It is easier to picture your own in a room that is empty.

Long tables set with flowers and candles running away from the camera
Trestles down the length. 190 at 650 mm each.
A bee on a lavender flower head
The lavender walk. It hums.
The word love in warm neon against the dark boards of a barn wall
It lives in the barn. It is staying.
Sunlight through the glass of a planted greenhouse
The glasshouse, which is where everyone ends up.
A single place setting with a sprig of greenery on the plate
One cover. Multiply by the number the room actually holds.
A flower bed of day lilies against a trellis by a barn wall
The border by the barn, late June.
A stone barn in a green valley under low mist
From the top of the lane.
Jam jars of gypsophila hanging from a ladder against a painted plank wall
Jars, string, and someone with an afternoon.
A dressed table with glassware, flowers and folded linen
Glass and linen are ours. Flowers are yours.
Weathered blue-green double doors open onto a planted garden room
The garden room doors, open from May.
Deep red acer foliage in close detail
The acer by the gate, second week of October.
Hands writing a place card at a set table
Place cards go out the morning of.

Everything, in one table

Computed from each room's real dimensions. Where a licence caps a room the licence wins, and the number here is the licence.

How the day runs

Built backwards from the light on 17 October 2026, because the light is the only part of the day you cannot move. Change the date above and the whole running order moves with it.

  1. 12:28 pm Doors You are in. So are the flowers, the cake, and whoever is doing the music.
  2. 1:58 pm Ceremony Forty minutes, near enough, whatever anyone has told you.
  3. 2:58 pm Drinks outside The walled garden if the wind is up, the orchard if it is not.
  4. 3:58 pm Sit down Two and a half hours for three courses and the speeches. It always is.
  5. 5:28 pm Out for photographs The hour worth interrupting the speeches for — and the reason the times on this page are computed rather than guessed.
  6. 6:14 pm Sunset Behind the west side. The doors are usually open by now.
  7. 6:47 pm Lights on Festoons in the barn, lanterns down the path. The band starts.
  8. 10:17 pm Carriages Music off at midnight, everybody out by half past. The licence is the licence.

Come at the hour you would get married

Not at eleven on a Tuesday morning. The light is the whole point of this place and it is completely different, and you will not be able to tell from photographs — including ours.
